Macca & Sonny

does this blog count if i am just copying and pasting an old entry from my brother's blog? ;-)
anyway, flashback - to an important day in our lives back in late March 2006 - I was finishing up another stint freelancing as a presenter at ESPN Star Sports, Sonny had a livelong dream to meet Steve McManaman (or rather, for him to return to play for Liverpool) - it so happened Macca was in Singapore to do some guest shows for ESPN, I persuaded the wonderful Andrew Leci and John Dykes to have McManaman spend some time with my brother. And lo and behold, he was nice enough to sit and sign autographs, have a chat and take photos with us.
i think this was one of the happiest that I have ever seen my brother, which just made for an overall lovely bonding / big sister sort of experience.
somehow it also made me remember about how much Sonny used to like Echo and The Bunnymen. funny really, how memories work.

And so on

a series of fortunate events :p

Mcmanaman day

neither robots nor monsters, but there was el macca!

my first blog!

It seems faintly surreal, finally getting round to creating a blog of my own.
A word first on the title of the blog - completely inspired by my brother Sonny, who is an immensely talented artist. His now somewhat defunct blog was called Giant Roberts Walk The Earth. When we both moved back to Singapore (independently made decisions, he from Boston and me from HK), we both started our own companies so that we could become self-employed proprietors and hence get an employment pass to stay in Singapore. He named his company Red Robot, I picked the name Blue Peanut. It was actually pretty amazing how we came up with those two names that were so similiar, despite never having once mentioning to the other what our company names would be. I was a freelance film/TV producer-presenter/media-contributor/fashion stylist/magazine article writer/ashtanga yoga teacher; he was and still is a freelance comic book artist/graphic designer/painter. (check out his website, its amazing: www.sonnyliew.com and also his other livejournal blog.
Since then, we have both become PRs (but not full-fledged Singaporeans!) and the companies no longer exist, but it's memories of a different time in my life.
To be honest, it sometimes seems as if the most exciting or bloggable bits of my life were in the past (bars, clubs, late night suppers at River Valley Rd, fort canning concerts and all night talks) - there was plenty to blog about 12-36 mths prior, whereas I'm not so sure about now. It also means that life has settled down to a less frenzied pace and I am much more interested in what is the best cupcake mix or best can opener, versus, oh, i don't know, all the other sort of things I fretted about in my "youth".
So - here we go, here's to remembering the little blue peanuts and red robots that inspired us in our lives.
